The Federal President and the DBU invite members of the public to an innovation showcase

Höxter/Berlin, 13 May 2024. The Arntz Optibelt Group will take part in the “Woche der Umwelt” (Week of the Environment) in the park of Bellevue Palace in Berlin on June 4th and 5th. The Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (Federal Foundation for the Environment, DBU) invite visitors to discover an exciting specialist programme, compelling discussions and a large display of innovations dedicated to a sustainable future.

One-of-a-kind atmosphere in the park of Bellevue Palace

V-belts ensure the movement of millions of harvesters, stone crushers, grass mowers, dryers, fans, compressors, and much more. The belts manufactured in a year by the medium-sized company Optibelt alone are capable of transmitting 600 TWh - that is more than Germany's electricity needs. Based on the results of a project funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, Optibelt developed rubber compounds for more energy-efficient belts and introduced three new innovative belts. When used, these high-performance V-belts enable savings of up to 1.6 terawatt-hours per year. This represents the annual electricity consumption of one million households in Germany. These savings are generated by the use of 10 million V-belts with a power of 4 kW each, for a service life of 5,000 hours per year. “It has become more important than ever to find practical solutions to urgent environmental problems. The park of Bellevue Palace offers exhibitors a one-of-a-kind atmosphere in which they can present these solutions to a national public”, declares Alexander Bonde, General Director of the DBU.

Around 190 exhibitors, future-focused themes on a large stage and more than 70 expert forums

Around 190 exhibitors will present their innovations and solutions for better environmental protection at the 2024 Environment Week in the park of Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the Federal President. A prestigious jury made up of judges from the fields of society, business and academia reviewed some 400 applications received in response to a national call for entries. The innovation showcase focuses on the very current topics of climate, environmental issues and species protection: On June 4th and 5th, the main stage will host discussions, a talk between the Federal President and young people, and more than 70 expert forums to generate fresh ideas and solutions. “This is about facing the main challenge of our times”, explains Bonde. Topics brought up include climate neutrality and energy security, hydrogen technologies, biodiversity and the protection of resources, sustainable transition and social cohesion. Other themes include education, digitalisation, infrastructure and economy.

Seventh edition of the “Woche der Umwelt”

The very first “Woche der Umwelt” was organised in 2002 by the Federal President at that time, Johannes Rau. Since then, it has been organised together with the Osnabrück-based Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt. For this year’s seventh edition, the event will once again take place in the park of Bellevue Palace and will seek to inspire all participants to strive for a sustainable future.
